What To Bet On The Kentucky Derby Live

Putting On the 2020 Kentucky Derby Hasn’t Been Easy

In March, the entire sports and entertainment industry came to a screeching halt. Horse race tracks were immediately forced to shut down and all major races were delayed until further notice. At that time, no one could say how long the regulations would last for.

Many felt that by May, racing events would resume. Time went on, however, and most of the country’s regulations either stayed in place or intensified. By mid-April, it became clear that it was impossible to host the 2020 Kentucky Derby on its original date.

For the first time since 1945, the Kentucky Derby was forced to be rescheduled. Event organizers announced the race would instead be held on September 5th. Hope was that by this time, fans would be allowed in the stands and some sense of normalcy would be back.

Several ideas were put forward on how to safely hold this event. Under normal circumstances, it draws in thousands of spectators into a small area to eat, drink, and enjoy the atmosphere. Organizers eventually agreed to allow just 14% capacity in the stands.

Those attending the race will notice some major changes. Masks will be required at all times, except while eating and drinking. The famous mint juleps will still be offered in disposable cups and only pre-packaged foods will be available.

It took a tremendous amount of effort to organize this year’s Derby. News has just broken that fans based in Nevada will now be given permission to bet on the race winners.

Gaming Commission Approves Amendment to Bet on the Kentucky Derby in Nevada

What To Bet On The Kentucky Derby

The popularity of sports betting is skyrocketing around the United States. Horse race betting remains one of the most popular options and many consider Nevada the mecca for this form of gambling. Incredibly, it seemed as if it would be impossible to bet on the Kentucky Derby in Nevada this year.

In the past, Nevada’s sportsbooks could only offer bets on events of which results were given by licensed disseminators. This year’s Kentucky Derby won’t have that luxury. Instead, sportsbooks will need to rely on nationally televised broadcasts for the results.

This proved to be a major issue for Nevada’s many sports betting companies. Without odds on the race, they’d lose out on a massive amount of much-needed revenue. The Nevada Gaming Commission has just officially approved an amendment that allows wagering on this event.

Many regulators fear this will result in betting scams. Broadcast delays may result in what’s known as “past-posting,” betting on an event after it has begun. Some of Nevada’s gaming commissioners now want to organize a workshop to come up with a more permanent solution for situations like this one.

“We want to be able to bet (on the Kentucky Derby), but we also want a workshop,” Commission Chairman John Moran said.“Roll up your sleeves and get ready to have some workshops.”

Racing fans have to be happy. It’s now officially possible to bet on the Kentucky Derby in Nevada through most sportsbooks. But what about those located outside of Nevada?
