More spinning moments bring greater variety, thrills and added chances to win
ONCHAN, Isle of Man – August 9, 2017 – PokerStars is adding a brand new product to its popular Spin & Go range. Spin & Go Max is an exciting, industry-first game that spins the format on its head. The new action-packed addition offers players a fresh, alternative poker experience with even more variation and excitement. There are more chances to win big, with the opportunity to secure up to 10,000 times the buy-in of each Spin & Go Max played.
Five new and exciting elements include: a player spinner, three prize options in each game, a set number of hands, an exciting all-in finale, and the chance for the winner to choose between three prizes or a cash out option.
Spin & Go Max launches today on PokerStars, the market-leading poker brand of The Stars Group (Nasdaq: TSG; TSX: TSGI), and will also feature new animations, sounds and graphics to give an immersive gameplay experience.
THE NEXT EVOLUTION OF SPIN & GO
Spin & Go Max adds another exciting new variant to the PokerStars suite of games, which reflects an ongoing commitment to providing players with innovative and engaging poker. Spin & Go launched in 2014 and Spin & Go Omaha was made available earlier this year.
'Spin & Go Max is the next level of the Spin & Go format and delivers more excitement and a great immersive experience through new graphics and more chances for winning moments,' said Severin Rasset, Director Of Poker Innovation and Operations at PokerStars.
GAME CHANGING NEW FEATURES
Spin & Go Max boasts a wealth of new features to create a poker game that adds more excitement, variety and fun to the mix.
- Number of Players: Each Spin & Go Max game begins with a spin to determine the number of tournament participants, from three to eight.
- Triple prize spinner: At the start of the tournament players will be shown the three prizes options that they’re playing for. At the end of the tournament the winner will have to pick from the three prizes – now facedown – adding a compelling and tension filled winning moment!
- Hand countdown: Spin & Go Max games will have a fixed number of hands based upon the size of the prize and the number of players. It will count down, building tension towards a nail-biting climax when...
- Automatic All-In finale: Once the final hand has been played, all remaining players will automatically go all-in until there is a winner. This will require the development of new strategies to beat fellow players. The automatic all-in means players will need to consider playing to win early on or accumulate enough chips to survive going all-in with their opponents.
- Risk and reward? Once a winner has been crowned they will again see the original three prize options and will select one at random. However on some occasions, such as when the prize pool is big enough, players will be offered a cash out option too. This poses the big money question of whether to take a guaranteed payout or take that one in three shot at the top prize. Other places will pay dependent on number of players and will be of fixed value.
MORE PRIZES, MORE EXCITEMENT THROUGHOUT
Spin & Go Max buy-ins will be $1, $3, $7 and $15 with at least one of the three prizes offered to the winning player always being more than double the buy-in, giving players more chances to win big. Spinning moments at the start and end of the tournaments, coupled with the hand countdown ensure the excitement builds and lasts to the thrilling finale.

Back to Brand News17:2419 Aug
The launch of Spin & Go tournaments back in 2014 was arguably one of the first signs of the major policy changes at PokerStars. With the removal of SuperNova Elite status shortly after, followed by a few VIP programme redesigns, introduction of the casino games and marketing campaigns featuring celebrities like Neymar or Usain Bolt, managers of the biggest poker room in the world decided to ignore the expectations of their core audience favoring casual fans and their new deposits.
While many professional players saw Spin & Go's as a pure gamble and urged the community to sign the petition for the removal of these tournaments from PokerStars client, ultimately, this fast and exciting poker format proved to be attractive for both recreational and regular players alike. After almost three years, PokerStars decided to double down on their revolutionary idea as they recently introduced a new poker variant called Spin & Go Max.
What is Spin & Go Max?
Spin & Go Max tournaments take a somewhat random nature of their predecessor and turn that randomness up to eleven. Your average Spin & Go Max will start with a spin determining the number of players at the table (from 3 to 8), followed by another spin revealing three different prize options that the eventual winner will draw from at the end of the game.
Spingo Max
Each Spin & Go Max tournament will have a fixed number of hands - based on the number of participants and the value of prizes - after which players will be forced to go all-in in every single hand. Once the winner is determined he or she will select one of the previously revealed prize options at random, though in some cases (such as big enough prize pool) the winner will have the option of 'cashing out' choosing a fixed payout instead of an uncertain one.
Poker of Lottery?
Wheel Of Fortune Spin Id
Many heads up and hyper-turbo tournament specialists initially pegged the original Spin & Go's as an unbeatable crapshoot that should be removed from the face of the earth. When the dust settled and the nerves calmed, regular players were quickly able to figure out that the soft player pool more than made up for the high-variance structure of the tournaments and the random payouts.
However, Spin & Go Max might reignite the old fears of poker community as they are even more random and much harder to evaluate. Besides, the hand cap after which players are forced to go all in every hand is something that pros certainly won't care for. And it's not just about the pros either.
Spin & Go's are comparatively much more transparent, given how players know the odds of each possible payout before they even register to a tournament, and they know exactly how much they will be playing for as soon as the tournament starts. Spin & Go Max tournaments are severely lacking in the transparency department. Recreational players are in for a lot of frustration and disappointment, due to that one in three chance of picking the highest prize option at the end of each tournament. The phrase 'Is PokerStars Rigged?' is probably going to show up a lot more often in Google trends following the introduction of Spin & Go Max.
Spin The Wheel
Are Spin & Go Max tournaments profitable? Only time will tell. However, poker is a game of really tiny edges and the attempt of bridging the gap between poker and casino games that PokerStars seems to take with every new poker format that they introduce, can really backfire in the long run.
